Commentaire: Cette production a subi de nombreux changements tout au long de sa période de développement. Pendant les répétitions, la star Gerolyn Petchel a été remplacée par Alyson Reed, et après le début des previews, le metteur en scène et chorégraphe Kenny Ortega a été remplacé par Thommie Walsh et Baayork Lee, même si Ortega a conservé son nom dans le programme. Dix chansons ont été abandonnées et quarante-cinq minutes du dialogue ont été supprimés avant la première. Parmi les personnages conservés, on retrouve la jeune Norma Jane Baker, qui interagissait avec elle-même adulte, et un trio, sorte de chœur grec, appelé Destiny, qui fournit un commentaire au sujet des ennuis de la bombe sexuelle.
Après 34 previews, la production de Broadway a ouvert le 20 novembre 1983 au Minskoff Theatre, et ne s'est joué que 17 représentations. En plus de Reed, la distribution comprend Scott Bakula (faisant ses débuts à Broadway) interprétant Joe DiMaggio, Will Gerard campant Arthur Miller, et Kristi Coombs incarnant la jeune Norma Jean.
Reed a été nommé pour la Récompense de Bureau de Drame pour l'Actrice Exceptionnelle dans un Musical. (plus)
